FIAC 2015 - Performances by Kapwani Kiwanga & Concert


Every day, contemporary centres d’art are initiating, producing and experimenting with unique forms of utterance, instigated by artists who venture into the space of speech, apart from that of discourse, by reallocating the artistic, political and economic roles within the art system.

In the context of FIAC 2015, d.c.a / the French association for the development of centres d’art has extended an invitation to Kapwani Kiwanga and CONCERT (Benjamin Seror, Morten Norbye Halvorsen, Chris Evans). They will present performative roles in which the space of speech, for example that of a song or lecture, becomes an exhibition space.


Wednesday 21 October 2015 at the Silencio 9pm – 11pm: CONCERT


CONCERT is a group of three artists – Chris Evans, Morten Norbye Halvorsen and Benjamin Seror – whose visual practices often merge their penchant for music and their susceptibility to its power. Sentimental disco backed by convoluted electronic rhythms, analogue bass and the voice of a distinctive singer make up CONCERT’s first album, Behave Like an Audience.

Thursday 22 October 2015 in the Auditorium of the Grand Palais at 12 noon: Kapwani Kiwanga, A Conservator’s Tale


Kapwani Kiwanga takes advantage of her training in the social sciences to develop works in which she plays the role of a researcher. Particularly through her performed readings, she constructs scientific narratives inspired by afrofuturism, science fiction, traditional fables and intangible documents, in order to approach archives and invisible figures.

These offerings are accompanied by a text by Vanessa Desclaux. An independent curator and a teacher at the École nationale supérieure d’art de Dijon, Vanessa Desclaux is currently completing a PhD in art/curating at Goldsmiths College, University of London. Her doctoral project explores the conditions under which curatorial practice and the figure of the curator operate and transform.
