Screening of artists videos proposed by art centers of d.c.a network (French association for the Development of Art Centers) in partnership with FIAC 08 and the support of Palais de Tokyo
Andrea Bruciati in partnership with AMACI (Association of Italian Contemporary Art Museums) and Bettina Steinbrügge are invited by d.c.a to produce two programs of selected artists movies suggested by art centers of d.c.a network.
Andrea Bruciati, art critic and curator, is the director of GC.AC in Monfalcone since 2002.

As Aristotle had already established in the Book IV of the Poetics, by creating for his own pleasure the image of another world, another way of expressing things, besides his world the homo aestheticus (the aesthetical man) modifies the outside reality as well. The over-reality that is created becomes the speculative outpost where the elusiveness of the image constitutes the guarantee of a new ontology of the representation.
Bettina Steinbrügge, art critic and curator, is the artistic director of Andersen’s contemporary gallery in Berlin. She has been director of Halle für Kunst Lüneburg between 2001 and 2008.

"FEAR AND DESIRE"

One of the defining features of post-modern society is the re-articulation of the verbal by the visual. There is a replacement of the symbolic with the imaginary or the simulacra. If the imaginary is really replacing the symbolic, what are the narratives we tell ourselves now? Or perhaps the question should be: how are we telling these narratives?
All works shown in this program are linked to each other by a theme of representational uncertainty. Memory, vision, and identity are all fragmented. Nothing can be relied upon as real, particularly the human protagonists. Hence they search not only for an elusive reality, but for themselves.
